Creative Apsect

Nuclear energy has had my eye since I started this capstone project, and a large chunk of my research ended up around the topic so I figured I would create a Prezi on nuclear energy.

Oil Wars

The use of fossil fuels has become the addiction of the modern civilizations. This Documentary stated that the past few wars haven't been about peace, more of control and oil profiteering. The biggest problem with oil wars is the fact that the oil has turned from a substance to the weapons itself.

With the use of oil as a new weapon renewable energies have a safer look from the start. The fact that countries are fighting to use an environmentally unsafe substance seems almost counterproductive, in every way.  It not very logical for me to think that human’s lives have been sacrificed for the continued use of oil in some countries.

Heavy Energy

Biomass energy is the use of a plant substance for the creation of energy. Biomass energy is normally used with the batteries. Biomass energy still creates CO2 emissions but the its barely a fraction to what there is from the fossil fuels.

Biomass seems as plausible as a future as all of these other. The use of biomass seems almost silly after the fact that there are nearly emissions free stuff such as solar and wind power, but if it could slash some of the usage of fossil fuels like all other energy. The changing of energy is moving towards a side that truly wants to have a lower emissions usage.

Open Sky

A solar thermal energy is a system of solar panels that use mirror that allow it to reflect and create a large sum of electricity. The president of solar industries association, Rhone Resch, says the sun is our number one prospected source of our future energy. The solar energy has ton of possible factions of its own. There are already some types of solar power that have large outputs, such as this solar thermal.
With the source of the energy to be used off a constant source, such as the sun is a great an idea. The use of something that is going to be as constant as solar power is an amazing idea, considering that the solar power is used to turn turbines, much most other modern energy creators. Once the storage is much easier, the whole energy race will have an easier time filling in the shoes of the oil industry.

Wind power is the prodigal son. Wind has as much solar, but wind can be set on almost anywhere around the world where as the solar power can only work where the sun is showing. The prospected idea of wind power is the use of an offshore wind farm around wind coast. The generator is the greatest necessity of the new age wind generator where we will need a greater storage system.

With wind power and the hydroelectric is sounds like the coasts have the greatest sources of energy. Then solar and wind can control inland. The future of energy will easily be able to control the demands of society. CO2 emissions are almost impossible to avoid with any of these energy sources, but these sources can slice the amounts down dramatically.

TED Talks Energy

The video talks about how the us economy can easily thrive off of the energy change. He starts by stating that the main need to change this epidemic of the CO2 emissions, we need vehicles that can be lighter and on a different energy source than the modern engine. He also states that humanity can be getting off of the oil by the year 2050. Other countries have started to create a greener environment, with the start of solar energy.

With other countries pushing the renewable energy source, it shouldn’t be long after the USA will follow in. The biggest concern has been vehicles for almost all of the countries; I think that it is truly interesting that the giant factories and power plants aren’t up on the concerns. Although it makes sense considering almost all of the modern societies have people using cars and vehicles

Flow With It

Waves are constant in the oceans; they never really stop, unless you are on the shore when the tides are changing. According to this source, there are many coastal regions that are using the natural waves to create some extra input of energy. They then explain that there are multiple types of energy that can be used, there are on shore sensor and there are also the sensors for open bays and coves to be out of the way of animal and persons flow. They talk about how these sensors can create large amounts of energy, upwards of 680 terra watts hours a year.

Even if it is not super affective for the internally lying cities in the United States and other countries, this isn’t really an option, but for the coast to be using the sheer power of waves to create and store large amounts of energy. This is also goes with the idea of using the rivers to create energy just by the current alone. I think it is truly amazing that these can cause such drastic change to how much energy we have just by having it sit there and go with the flow of the water.

Clearing the Future

Over the past decade the biggest environmental disaster hasn’t been a single event more of just the use of CO2 emitters. According to the United states Department of Energy, the emissions over the past year of 2012 we had a decline in CO2 emissions.  They hope that within the next few years the newer hybrids will catch on and help make a bigger dampening mark on the larger scale.

This is huge because this means that the use of hybrids has started to help with what the vehicles are doing or the general use of vehicles has declines. Either way it’s great to see that the US is finally back tracking up on all the damage we had caused to the environment. Even if it’s not a big step forward, it’s better than building up more CO2 emissions than there can be repaired for. With this change of emission there could be a drastic change over the years to come, even if it isn’t much at each time it will build up to a great amount of change after a few years.

Strong Little Atom

Hydrogen is another suspected energy source that could come arise in the next decade or so. When hydrogen is used as a fuel like substance it is normally as the form of a liquid. This substance has been used on most of the past space shuttles used by the USA. The system was and electrical engine that use the Hydrogen liquid and through the combustion and use of it would make a pure H2O sample for eth crew aboard. That was the only by byproduct of this engine.
If we could make ourselves such an effect engine for regular everyday use like that for vehicles of civilians, I think most people would be fond of the creation of water molecules, considering the fuel source is derived from the very substance it creates. Considering that in history the Atom bomb was only considered to be a fraction of the H-bomb, or Hydrogen bomb. Hydrogen has been proven to be such a strong energy source because it's only one proton and one electron, the simplest of all elements.

Sunny Drive

Cell phones are an every day’s use these days, almost as common as the car in most people’s lives. Generally the best time to charge your phone is over night. Most people wouldn’t think to do the same with one of their cars, but there are cars out there now that run on solar, switch grass and a battery, which alone can power the vehicle. This article brings up that solar and electric cars are finally striding ahead of the Fossil fuel cars we use now. The cars are naturally a combination of two because the battery alone cannot start a car, although it would be a mix of something that created CO2 and the battery, we would be better off with the emissions made then we are now.
Cars are defiantly the biggest human assisted cause to global warming and CO2 emissions. It’s not odd to think that the next focus of the scientist is to get a car out there that can work better than he modern highbred. These batteries they talk about are crazy at storing energy, and there are 4 combinations that the battery can be used with where it is at maximum put out. Out of all 4 of these the use of fossil fuels isn’t even present. Fossil fuels were a great idea at first. Although like the rest wasn’t never truly weary of the negative outcome of its use; the scientist teams studying these batteries are looking under every like pathways this battery brings.

Fender Bender?

Nuclear energy is already considered dangerous by society, but the idea of a car that has a mini nuclear reactor inside of it is quite ridiculous. This article has no biased side on it, they only speak of how good or bad this could be. Nuclear energy has almost no pollution other than the nuclear waste, which would only be once every 5-7 years with each vehicle. Then the article talks about how this could be and extremely bad idea, what would happen if the vehicle owner wasn’t properly shielded from the radiation? The person in the vehicle and ever others near it could easily die from the nuclear attack. The other main concern brought up is the common use of radioactive materials in weapons.
Vehicles such as a car are still considered extremely unsafe. And nuclear energy is hard to be sustained in such a small area. Sure it would be crazy awesome if we could remove CO2 emossions in general from all the vehicles that are one the road ways now. The risk of all the bad drivers out there doesn’t over way the risk of how badly our society can be hurt by an accident, let’s say a small little fender bender I feel could be fine after a crash but let’s say there was a T-bone accident, how serious could the wall around the nuclear material rupture? I feel this is a cool idea but with the way roads are now, there no logical reason to make everyone’s care into a handy dandy nuke.

Steam & Salt

Nevada has a new salt based solar thermal power plant. Sure that sounds like an unlikely source of energy, but the article does a nice job explaining how this salt energy works. The salts they use can be stored at high temperature than water, when the salt is stored it is constantly boiling, with little to no evaporation. They then use the already boiling salt and run it through pipes in a water basin that cause the steam to turn the turbine.

Energy source have been focused towards; solar, wind, biomass, fossil fuels and hydro-electric, it is odd to think that research has reach once again for an earth resource. After the use of fossil fuels and the huge amount of people who have started to oppose them. This salt technology blows my mind, to think something as simple and salt can be used to create a huge amount of energy once it has been heated. With these ideas like how long will be until we have another racial new power idea like this.

Radiantly Safe

According to NASA’s scientist Pushker A. Kharecha and James E. Hansen, the emissions from nuclear energy will cause fewer deaths in the long run compared to fossil fuels. They also say that because of nuclear energy, it has prevented 1.84 million air pollution-related deaths and 64 gigatonnes. Nuclear energy is also suspected to be able to prevent the 420,000 to 7.04 million deaths by 2050, if we switch over to it.

Nuclear energy is an extremely scary idea, after thinking about nuclear activity in the past you only hear about how much destruction and death they have caused. History has slandered the face of nuclear energy, nuclear energy is considered safe compared to coal mining and to oil drilling. Nuclear energy is considered the least deadly of all energies. If you think of it, nuclear waste isn’t as deadly for the environment if we can store like we already do, comparatively to the emissions of the fossil fuels they are destroying the earth because of their emissions. Nuclear energy only has the nuclear waste and steam in the end.

Rocking the Boat

Having the natural waves of the ocean of flow of the current can be used to create an energy source. This states that they have used said technology, although before it wasn’t used for energy of human consumption, they were used for the creation of more essential things such as flour for bread. This type of energy creation systems is more common in dams, by doing that they can create an artificial energy source from the new manmade current.

I think it’s amazing that they took the original designs were just the mind turbine and the classic lumberyard wheel that turns when the current pushes it, they were used for other purposes. Over the past 100 years they have applied the turbine/ propeller to the insides of dams, to make them more efficient.  When I first heard that you can create power from a dam, by allowing the flowing currents to run through the propeller to turn the turbine and create energy, it sound a lot like this a reliable energy type that could be applied to almost any major closed off water way and even possible the ocean.

Shining Skies

Projection are always just a pondering state of persons and companies, it is just like the weather they can be right half the time, but they are always super close to where they originally state. They state that the projected outcome of energy by sometime in 2013 to be up near 18000 megawatts hours per day. This amount of energy out does other numbers from past years.
The prospects and futures such as 18000 megawatts hours hour per day is an insane amount of energy. With the progress such as this solar energy looks like it may be the most reliable energy source to live on; it could nearly power a whole town with that much energy.  The only down side to this bright idea is what happens once you reach the limit of said power limit of each day, how do you store it? And how do you fix the problem of cloudy and or sun lacking regions of the world/ USA? Sure solar isn't sound proof yet, but at least they are trying with leaps forward.

Green America

The article, “The Greenest Organizations in the US: Who Uses the Most Renewable Energy?” This article shows that the green movement started a few years  back really caught on with some major organizations, including Intel, Microsoft, Wal-Mart and Apple, just to name a few. Then the article went on to explain that these companies use the most renewable energy out of any other American companies.

I find really interesting that America has been the main use of the non-renewable sources of energy such as coal and fossil fuels, but this article shows that America has turned its check to the situation.  When I think of America, I normal think of it being a small on the idea of moving the energy situation and not changing the almost set in stone ways of modern society, although like most of our modern life I have grown accustom to such changes and I think some changes are defiantly need for our government and social life.

Lost in Chemicals

During the Past few weeks in our English class we have been focused on doing a Model Capstone, this started to teach us how to do our own Capstone. In this whole project a lot of the stuff we went through in the funnel was very important by each point in the funnel, but I feel that the starting idea of the funnel that was just environment/surrounding is the most important in a whole.
This is a small pocket of information that is directly from the show "Lost" script, “He's bathed in SUNLIGHT now -- squinting at what he sees --, and we're just on his eyes. HOLD ON HIM, in shock, until he, moves forward -- and IN THE SAME SHOT, we PAN AS HE MOVES --, 180 DEGREES UNTIL WE'RE BEHIND HIM, LOOKING OUT ON SOMETHING, ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC. Only twenty yards away..., A PLANE, CRASHED ON THE BEACH, 777 -- PASSENGER AIRLINER -- 250-Seater -- the MIDDLE SECTION, of the fuselage PLOWED INTO THE SAND -- one WING STICKING, STRAIGHT UP, TOWERING SEVEN STORIES INTO THE SKY, sporadic, SPARKS BURSTING FROM THE INVERTED ENGINE, showering down on, the absolute MAYHEM on the sand –“.  We first started the unit with the pilot of the TV show “Lost”. This show was perfect for showing the environmental change. In the show everyone was out of their place once the plane had gone down on the island. In the show if it had been a different terrain the story would be different. The rest of our capstone rolled off the idea of the surroundings of the people. Later in the model capstone we went down to the chemicals in the human body, this is directly off the idea of environment.  When people are aware of their surroundings yes it is hard to be aware of your surroundings when it comes to chemicals. There are the general studying people can do about certain common day objects like our cars, our shampoos and clothe detergents.
Within our surroundings there are many things we know to be dangerous much like on the show "Lost", where the forest holds many secrets and dangers. It’s much like modern day life, we live in a chemical jungle, and there will always be dangers hiding away in each corner.

You Make Bath Time So Much Fun

The book “Slow Death by Rubber Duck: The Secret Danger of Everyday Things.”  This book is about two guys who take these chemicals that are found in some of the most common everyday stuff and see how their bodies will be after introducing the large amounts of chemicals into their body. These chemicals they would introduce were most likely dangerous for the human body.

photo: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr1z6w1OAvenTTu-DQ8WNpnnUni36jpOTZRmxkWEhGOQoS1jdMeEkZrglEPtzuiXdWINj9qzRk_V6xjUjvVQboyjJBYUincEs8fL8cighqukXJvMUa_feMBm4L-lnHbXAMp8NQch97yAc/s1600/sydney+australia+rubber+duck+9.jpg
I find this idea to be extremely dumb. There has always been a fine line between logic and stupidity, and sadly there are always the few that want to cross that line and see how dangerous the other side is. This book was absolutely painful for me to read I felt like they were just pushing information without giving much of real life evidence other than what they were doing to themselves.  This book didn’t keep my attention because I didn’t feel like this completely applied to me, I mean sure it’s part of my everyday life but I feel like it’s not as big of deal as the book makes it seem.

No smoking?

There are chemicals in everyday life that we don’t know are there, it’s much of the idea of out of sight out of mind. This article that we had read for English class was based around these hidden chemicals, this intrigued writer got a test to see how many of these chemicals are in his body and how many particles per million there are in him. This test was quiet expensive so every day Americans probably won’t get their hands on this type of a test. He found that his body was being flooded with Flame Retardants and a few other hidden dangers. He had found out that the reason for all this in his body was from traveling around the world in airplanes covered in layers of flame retardants to keep the inflight passengers safer. But are the passengers any safer now that they have all those chemicals in there body?

Many people may think it is completely appalling that these corporations are doing this on purpose, that they know these chemicals are deadly yet they keep using them. I see these chemicals to be more effective than not, they have more pros than cons. The idea of too much is a completely logic concept, so when someone says what happened if you get too much of these chemicals,  that is exactly what happens you have too much and it can and will be fatal. Sure some are impossible to avoid but those are the ones that we don’t need to be around like flame retardants in planes. It’s not expected for people to be non-stop fly and being these chemicals all the time the chemicals are there for the safety of everyone, and I feel it still allows said safety to stay in place.

One more fossil in the ground

From this article which is paralleling the first article that I had read, speaks of the exact same fate of the poor prehistoric crustaceans. They went through a time period that lacked the sustaining oxygen levels need. This caused a fluctuation in the species fossils. When this was discover scientist found it extremely odd that there was such a drastic change in the fossils. Photo:http://static.guim.co.uk/sysimages/Books/Pix/pictures/2012/3/6/1331038452346/Trilobite-fossil-007.jpg

This article made the idea of global warming a very real thing. This information gives the whole topic of global warming some strong evidence. It is often said that history is bound to repeat itself. So is the earth head towards dangerous oxygen levels and warming seas? Is there extinction of species in our future? Even with this evidence it is still unknown the cause of this catastrophe, because humanoid life forms weren’t around yet to use the CO2emitters. It seems as if this was completely natural for the earth to go through such a state. So are humans the pushing factor now or just taking an unfair blame?

The Global warming and our helpless oceans

This past article I had read talks about how in the past the oceans have gone through drastic temperature changes and will lead to the death to sea life. They talk about how scientist had taken a deep analysis of fossils from the early Jurassic. These fossils were found to help prove the theory that the oxygen levels were extremely low and high temperatures. This finding also showed a huge gap in fossil life with many before this dead zone period and then during there were few to no fossils and after a few inches of earth there was a new layer filled with fossil, even some of new species. Photo-http://www.pikespeakrock.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/pikespeak.fossil-fish.jpg

This article had a strong resemblance to the idea of Global warming, where they had said thing like this would happen if we hadn’t turned back our ways on fossil fuels use. Although they are around the same premise the idea that just from use of fossil fuels we will kill of all of our sea life I feel is completely illogical and that there is enough marine life that pushes oxygen back in to ocean as to where it won’t need to rely on the open above sea air. But the water warming and causing fish to either boil to death or leave the shores and go deeper and colder is more likely. These much like the global warming are still pending futures but we don’t know the true outcome until we get hit with the repercussions.

Enviormental Concerns

Life and death are two of the most common things in time. More often than not both of those are completely natural. Some would say that earth is slowly on the decline for its life span, the planet is figuratively dying. This death seems forced, the natural life span of Earth is relatively unknown, but the consumerist nature of humans is slowly killing it. We slowly are digging and grinding away the precious resources. These rare rocks or these delicate woods that we careless search for, cause more problems than good for the environment.  Sure the things we build for modern society thinks we really need, such as TV’s, cellphones, cars, computers, etc.; our lush landscape is ravaged for such small things that only allow the companies to save a quick buck or two. The earth is slowly become another rocks that revolves around the sun. Earth has always been called the blue planet and green planet but sooner or later with all of this wasteful nature we will be just like the red planet mars.
